Demolition Works – Central Drive, Blackpool

Complete Demolition Ltd was appointed by Blackpool Council to demolish 75-85 Central Drive, Blackpool.

The works comprised of scaffold erection, asbestos removal, clearing out, removal of roof slates and timber, hand and mechanical demolition and backfilling of basements.  The site was situated on one of Blackpool’s busiest roads through the town and close to residential properties and shops.

Prior to commencement of works the H&S team worked closely with the Highway Department  with regards to accessing the site and the road closure.  The neighbouring properties were contacted and informed of the scope of works and programme of the project.  Meetings were held prior to the commencement of the works and throughout the works with key council staff.

The building was fully scaffolded before any works could be undertaken.  Asbestos removal was then undertaken under fully controlled conditions, followed by clearing of loose furniture and debris.  The roof slates were then removed and reused.  Due to its close proximity to the road, the safest way to demolish the front and gable walls was by hand.  The remainder was mechanically demolished by a 30 tonne demolition excavator.  In line with company policy, 98% of demolition waste was recycled or reused.

Another Doosan for Complete

Complete Demolition Ltd has expanded its fleet with the purchase of a new full demolition specification Doosan DX300LC-3 30 tonne crawler excavator.

The new DX300LC-3 excavator has been supplied with a host of safety and demolition features, including a cab guard, heavy duty undercarriage, side protection, dual hydraulic circuits, maintenance safety handrails, flashing beacon, safety belt beacon and strengthened undercarriage protection plates.  The new excavator package also included a new quick hitch and a new Doosan heavy duty bucket.   At the heart of the new excavator is the new “common Rail” DL08 engine controlled by the new EPOS system for optimum power and fuel saving. These new features help optimise combustion and minimise pollution through reduced Nox and particle omissions.

Gary Robinson, Managing Director said “We have been operating a fleet of Dooson excavators for over 8 years, the added benefit of the new features made the decision to purchase the new DX300 a very easy one to make. The reduced omissions and increased efficiency will assist in lowering our carbon footprint and the added features is in keeping with our ongoing commitment to safety”
